Bondi and Laura

Gold Coast to Dublin

Trip Overview

Owner: Laura OBrien

Origin: Gold Coast

Pet Name: Bondi

Destination: Dublin

Breed: Domestic Shorthair

“Bondi has been my constant companion, and is my world.”

Laura travelled with her beautiful Domestic Shorthair cat Bondi from Gold Coast to Dublin with Petraveller. Laura talks about Bondi’s importance in her life and why she chose Petraveller to handle the international pet relocation.

Laura adopted Bondi from the Gold Coast AWL shelter when Bondi was nine weeks old in July 2017. Laura says, “Bondi has been a shy and a quiet cat from the start. In a room full of outgoing kittens, I found her hiding under a cat bed. It took a lot of patience to get her used to her new home.”

Bondi is a strictly indoor cat and is easily spooked by loud noises and unfamiliar people. She is not streetwise or outgoing.

Talking about the special bond Laura shares with Bondi, Laura says, “I had travelled to Australia without a partner or my family, and Bondi has been my constant companion. Since the day I adopted her, she has been there for me through all my ups and downs.”

Bondi is a shy and anxious cat who doesn’t like change or new environments, and it takes her a while to adapt to change although she settles in well once allowed to go at her own pace. Laura says with a smile, “She isn’t the cuddliest cat but is very loving in her way and constantly follows me around. We have a special connection as it has just been the two of us living together for most of her years.”

Laura further shares, “Bondi can get a little panicked in new locations and among new people. She is a bit of a crier and can try and wriggle out of situations. However, she’s not an aggressive biter by any means. She can wriggle with her legs and I have had a few little wrestling situations with her trying to get her into carriers or moving her etc. Whenever she feels stressed, she loves to hide under beds or in cupboards.”

Laura was moving back home to Dublin, Ireland. “I was in a relationship that ended badly a few months ago. It brought me to the decision that being around my family in Ireland is where I needed to be in my immediate future. I felt torn between staying in Australia and returning home to Ireland because I love both countries,” says Laura.

Laura considered leaving Bondi with a close friend who Bondi adores. She says, “I was very worried that this huge move would be too much for Bondi to handle. I went back and forth many times and put off booking for ages. But selfishly I simply couldn’t live without Bondi. She is the most important person in my life. I love her, and if I left her behind, it would affect me even more than when my relationship ended.”

Laura adds, “So as nervous as I was about us going home, I knew I couldn’t do it without Bondi. She is my world, and I hope that this will be as easy as possible for her.”

Laura started looking online for pet travel options and came across Petraveller. She says, “Petraveller was the most professional option for my girl and the best fit. I wanted a company that I could put my trust in with the most precious thing I have in my life.”

Bondi had a very relaxed journey from Gold Coast to Dublin and is now busy exploring her new surroundings. Thank you, Laura, for giving Petraveller the opportunity of relocating your precious kitty. We wish you a good life ahead and many happy moments with your dear Bondi.
