Cohen, Stirling and Shannon

Sydney to Los Angeles

Trip Overview

Owner: Shannon Bathis

Origin: Sydney

Pet Names: Cohen and Stirling

Destination: Los Angeles

Breed: West Highland Terrier and Scottish Terrier

“Petraveller was the only company who responded and showed interest in making the relocation happen during the Covid pandemic.”

Shannon and his adorable dogs, Cohen and Stirling, travelled from Sydney to Los Angeles with Petraveller. He talks about his pets’ temperament and explains why he partnered with Petraveller for their international pet relocation

Adorable West Highland Terrier Cohen joined the Bathis family as a puppy three years ago. Shannon says, “We had two dogs already, with the older one quite elderly and in ill health, we didn’t want to be a house of just one dog. We were lucky to get Cohen in time for him to meet the eldest dog, and he bonded very well with the middle dog.”

Five months ago, Shannon brought a Scottish Terrier Stirling home as a puppy. Shannon shares, “We had recently lost our middle dog due to illness (during Covid). It was just Cohen in the house, and it was lonely and empty. Cohen missed having another dog as a companion. It was quite a search to get Stirling due to Covid-19 and border restrictions, so he was a lucky find.”

Cohen is a very Westie stoic dog. He’s independent and does things on his own terms. “We often describe him as being just a little bit special, perhaps because he joined the family as a puppy and didn’t get enough attention as our eldest puppy was sick. He loves a walk and goes his way,” says Shannon.

Cohen loves head scratches and being massaged. He bonds with random people he meets and becomes their best friend and has a little bark sound that he makes when he meets them. Shannon smiles and shares, “Cohen does love the sound of his voice. He will get excitable and start to play, but only to a point, after which it’s time to find a quiet space to relax.”

On the other hand, Stirling, is still in puppy mode. He is utterly fearless with everything and everyone. Shannon fondly says, “His cute little legs don’t stop him just going at full speed for everything. Like a typical Scottie, he will eat anything and everything first and decide later whether it’s good or not. Stirling is very loving and enjoys company.” Shannon adds, “He’s respectful of Cohen’s quirks and whilst they play with a funny intensity, he does respect when Cohen needs his quiet alone time.”

The Bathis family and their pets were relocating to Los Angeles for work. Shannon says, “I got the job in January 2020 and made plans to move by April 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic got in the way.”

Shannon began searching for a trustworthy pet transport company to help him relocate his pets to Los Angeles safely. Since the whole world was faced with the Covid-19 crisis, it was not easy for Shannon to find a pet travel partner. He says, “Pre-Covid, I had received quotes from several suppliers, and the only one who bothered to call me and talk through the process was Petraveller. When it looked like things might settle enough to relocate, Petraveller was the only company who responded confidently and showed interest in making the relocation happen.”

Cohen and Stirling were such well-behaved boys during their entire journey. Thank you, Shannon, for trusting Petraveller with your beloved dogs. We wish the Bathis family happy and wonderful adventures with Cohen and Stirling out there in Los Angeles.
