Daisy, Lily and Jannette

Hobart to Amsterdam

Trip Overview

Owner: Jannette Smith

Origin: Hobart

Pet Names: Daisy and Lily

Destination: Amsterdam

Breed: Rhodesian Ridgebacks

“Daisy is a nervous nelly, and Lily is a talker.”

Adorable Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs Daisy and Lily travelled across the world from Hobart to Amsterdam with Petraveller. Pet mum Jannette talks about her pets and explains why she partnered with Petraveller for their international pet relocation to the Netherlands.

Daisy and Lily are pure breed Rhodesian Ridgebacks bred by Ujaama Ridgebacks in Victoria and lived in Hobart, Tasmania. Jannette says, “Daisy and Lily are half-sisters. Despite having the same mother, the impact of the genes of their fathers is very noticeable. Daisy has a more athletic built than Lily, and their coats are different too.”

Four-and-a-half-year-old Daisy is a very loving dog. Jannette recalls, “Daisy came to us when we had an older Ridgeback, Jazzie, who was much more dominant in character. She taught Daisy to be vocal and protective of the borders at home.” Jannette adds, “Daisy is a bit of a nervous nelly and worries about her family. She is loyal, loving and ever so slightly aloof. She does not immediately approach strangers, but once she knows it’s safe, she will check you out.”

Lily is twelve months old, and still a puppy at heart. She absolutely adores Daisy. Jannette smiles and says, “Lily’s vocalisation is more to tell us what she thinks than being protective! She is a talker and loves to backchat at any opportunity. Lily will do a lot for a treat, but stubbornness is a Ridgeback trait, and she has that in spades.”

Jannette laughs and adds, “Lily comes back when it suits her, so unless you smell better than the environment, be prepared to wait. She jumps up if you bend down, so be careful not to lose your glasses. Neither Daisy nor Lily are well-trained, but they know how to live with humans to ensure everyone is happy.”

Jannette was moving to Amsterdam, the Netherlands with her family. She says, “We have lived in the Netherlands back in the mid-nineties, and after twenty-two years in Australia, it’s time for us to go back home.” Daisy and Lily were relocating, too, as Jannette couldn’t imagine moving without her fur babies.

Jannette started looking for international pet travel options to move her dogs to Amsterdam. While Jeannette was on the lookout for an efficient and trustworthy pet travel company, she came across Petraveller. Jannette says, “When we started to look into relocation, it was clear that things have changed a lot since we did this before. We got quotes from three companies. We looked at reviews and checked out the social media profiles.”

Jannette continues, “Petraveller had a lot of information online. This made me suspicious because it is easy to create an online world, but that doesn’t always translate into service. Still, I kept returning to Petraveller’s reviews that talked about the updates people received while their pets were in transit and the successful arrival of so many dogs. That was the most awful part of our experience years ago; leaving our dog and cat locked in a crate and walking away, trusting that they would arrive safely. It was good to see so many pets were still travelling despite Covid as Petraveller found a way to keep things moving.”

Daisy and Lily had an incredible journey from Hobart to Amsterdam and have settled in well in their new home. Thank you, Jannette, for trusting Petraveller with your precious pets. We wish you a happy life ahead with Daisy and Lily in the Netherlands.
