Dusk and Jamie

Kiwi-born Jamie gave Kelpie x Jack Russell, Dusk a forever home when he rescued her. Read to know more about their special bond and their international pet relocation experience with Petraveller.

Dusk was rescued from a remote aboriginal community in the middle of nowhere in Western Australia. She was found on the side of the road about 30kms from the nearest town, when she was only three months old. Jamie adopted her from the local ranger who was cleaning her up. Jamie says, “She grew up with my other dog Diesel, who is a Kelpie and they were best of friends. She spent the first two years of her life living on the road with my partner and myself, travelling around remote Western Australia and Northern Territory with our travelling carnival. So, she is well adapted to travelling and loves it. She gets so excited when she gets to a new place.”

Dusk is a very energetic dog. She is extremely playful, but also very affectionate and cuddly. Jamie says, “We believe she was treated pretty poorly at the beginning of her life, judging by her condition when she was found. Therefore, she is a very anxious dog who gets very scared with other dogs and unknown people.”

Jamie adds, “Dusk can get a little aggressive and growly at the vets, I usually put her in a muzzle in that case. When Dusk is playful and excited, she tends to play with her teeth. She loves to bite hands and feet, but just nips and it does not hurt.”

After living in Australia for six years, Jamie was moving back home to Christchurch, New Zealand to be around her family. She says, “A lot of people told me to find Dusk another home and leave her behind, but that is not something I could ever consider. I do not believe in rehoming pets. She is my family.”

Jamie decided to engage the services of a pet transport company to help her relocate her pet overseas. She got quotes from a few pet transport companies.
