Izzy and Catherine

Melbourne to Wellington

Trip Overview

Owner: Catherine Scullin

Origin: Melbourne

Pet Name: Izzy

Destination: Wellington

Breed: Domestic Shorthair

“Petraveller’s positive reviews and videos reassured me.”

This autumn marked the homecoming for Catherine as she concluded her 34-year-old journey in Australia and shift base to New Zealand. She reached out to Petraveller for assistance with her pet cat Izzy’s international pet relocation. Catherine explains the attachment and the connection she shares with Izzy and her experience using Petraveller.

Catherine was with the RSPCA when Izzy was bought in as a two-week-old abandoned kitten. Catherine hand-reared Izzy, and when it was time for Izzy’s adoption, Catherine realised that she couldn’t give her up that easily and adopted her. She says, “Black cats are often difficult to rehome due to superstition. Anyone who has owned a black cat knows that they are the bee’s knees actually.”

Catherine says, “Even though Izzy was raised by a human and a dog, she continues to be quite shy. However, she behaves well with vets, handlers and can exit and enter the crate pretty well.”

Izzy is quite the fusspot with food. She loves scratches on her head or chin and tiny cuddles. She is very healthy and has been visiting the vet regularly.

Izzy has her quirky moments. Catherine says fondly, “Izzy loves to sit in a box or a tray or a shopping bag or in a washing basket. When she gets tired at the end of the day, she makes it very obvious that she wants to go to bed. If I am standing, she claws the back of my legs or stares at me till I make a move. When I go to the bedroom, she tears off ahead of me, flinging her hind leg out the side like some push off for extra comic effect.”

Catherine adds, “Sometimes when Izzy refuses her food, I put it in the garden for the birds to eat. She will devour it so they can’t have it. She is a nut, but an adorable one.”

After living in Australia for thirty-four years, Catherine decided to move back home to Wellington, New Zealand to be closer to her family. She says, “I no longer have any strong ties to Australia. I have been here for 34 years, so it is quite the move!”

Like all pet mums, Catherine was anxious about her pet’s relocation and concerned about the two-flight transit. Catherine began her search for an international pet travel company to assist her with the move. Catherine says, “Petraveller’s positive reviews and the videos reassured me. They kept me in the loop and well-informed. Most importantly, they took such good care of my Izzy girl. She arrived happy and stress-free, just glad to be in her new home.”

The pet relocation went well, and now Izzy has a lot of time on her paws to discover the scenic suburb of Wilton in Wellington. Thank you, Catherine, for trusting Petraveller with your precious pet. We wish you more memorable experiences with Izzy out there in New Zealand.
