Maila and Kevin

Sydney to Los Angeles

Trip Overview

Owner: Kevin Baum

Origin: Sydney

Pet Name: Maila

Destination: Los Angeles

Breed: Siberian Husky

“Maila is very cat-like.”

Gorgeous Siberian Husky Maila had a seamless pet travel experience from Sydney to Los Angeles. Get to know more about Maila and her international pet relocation experience with Petraveller.

The Baum family decided to bring Maila into their home even before moving from England to Australia. Kevin recalls, “We actually picked her up two weeks after we landed, but well before we knew where we were going to live. We like to joke that she met us at the airport. This was in February of 2014, and Maila has been an amazing, loyal, loving and quirky member of our family since then.”

Maila is intensely curious by nature, always wanting to explore new places. Kevin reminisces with a laugh, “When she was a pup, she would sometimes escape our yard if we left the door open. We quickly learned she would never be far. Simply find the closest open door and go in, and she would be running around exploring. Once, when looking for her, we saw her run outside on the third story balcony of an apartment building she had run into!”

Kevin speaks fondly of Maila, “We tell people that Maila is very cat-like. She is not an overbearing dog that demands attention. Instead, she marches to the beat of her drum, acting like she wants nothing to do with us, actively avoiding pats sometimes. But then we notice that without even hearing her come, we find her always in the same room as we are, following us silently from room to room, always facing away from us.” He adds, “Maila always knows when we are upset and comes to lick us in a cat-like way.”

The Baum family were relocating with their family dog Maila to Los Angeles, for work and to be closer to their family. As Maila is a big part of the family, leaving her behind didn’t cross Kevin’s mind at all.

Kevin decided to engage the services of a pet relocation company to manage the ins and outs of his pet’s relocation. Like all pet parents, Kevin was nervous about putting his pet through a journey of that length. The safety and comfort of his pet was his biggest priority. Kevin spoke to several other pet transport companies before choosing to partner with Petraveller. Kevin says, “We were scared and nervous about Maila's wellbeing. She doesn't do well in confined places and wanted to make sure she doesn't hurt herself out of fear on the flight. We felt Petraveller was the most up-to-date, informed and cared more about the pet’s wellbeing.”

We are glad to say that Maila had a fantastic flight and is now settled well in her new home. Kevin is delighted with the pet travel experience. He says, “Petraveller helped us navigate all the uncertainty and confusion around an international move during COVID.”

Thank you, Kevin, for giving Petraveller the opportunity to relocate your beloved fur baby Maila to her new home in the United States of America. We wish you a happy life ahead and plenty of adventures with adorable Maila.
