Mongrel, Dipshit and Sheree

Rockhampton to Christchurch

Trip Overview

Owner: Sheree Wallis

Origin: Rockhampton

Pet Name: Mongrel and Dipshit

Destination: Christchurch

Breed: Domestic Shorthair x2

“Petraveller had very good reviews on Facebook.”

Lovely Domestic Shorthair kitties, Mongrel and Dipshit, travelled with Petraveller from Rockhampton to Christchurch. Here’s their international pet relocation story.

Mongrel and Dipshit belong to Sheree’s son Scott who has had them since they were kittens. They travelled to Australia in 2013 and lived in Geraldton in WA with Sheree and then moved to Queensland in 2016. Sheree says, “Mongrel and her daughter Dipshit are travelling with me to New Zealand. These names were given by Scott to his cats.”

While in Queensland, Mongrel injured her hind leg on her right side, and her leg had to be amputated. She has three good working legs now. Sheree says, “In 2018, we noticed that she was not looking very well and appeared to be having some type of seizures. We took her to the vet and she is now on medication in the morning and in the evenings.”

Sheree continues, “Her seizures have since stopped, and she is in very good health. We notice that with the back leg missing, she is unable to scratch herself on the right-hand side. Smart cat Mongrel has learnt to come and ask us for scratches. We give her scratches specifically under her chin, around her ear and down the right-hand side.”

Dipshit is a ginger and white cat and is one of Mongrel’s kittens. Mongrel and Dipshit are the complete opposite of each other in personality. Sheree says, “Mongrel loves her food and water. She likes company and is a bit of a smooch with people she knows. She was always a bit standoffish with me, and I was friendlier with Dipshit. However, with the three of us having lived together for some time now, we have become quite close and familiar with each other. Mongrel loves to sit on my lap or to be in the same room as me when I am doing stuff.”

She adds, “Mongrel and Dipshit will have their arguments and tiffs which Mongrel always wins because she is top cat.”

Dipshit is very wary of people. Sheree says, “She does not willingly go to strangers for a scratch and a cuddle whereas Mongrel will. Dipshit will wake me in the morning for breakfast by walking all over me at anywhere from 5.00 am - 6.30 am every morning.”

Sheree was heading back home to be with her son and her family during the COVID-19 pandemic, and so were Mongrel and Dipshit. She says, “Scott returned to New Zealand expecting to come back to Australia but events have happened, and now Scott’s cats and I are returning home to New Zealand to live.”

Sheree decided to get help from an experienced pet travel agency to relocate her pets. She reached out to Petraveller to handle the entire relocation process. Sheree says, “Petraveller had excellent reviews on the Facebook group New Zealanders Going Home that I have been following to get advice and suggestions for moving home.”

We are happy to say that Mongrel and Dipshit reached Christchurch safely and are happily reunited with their pet dad Scott. Thank you, Sheree, for trusting Petraveller with adorable Mongrel and Dipshit’s relocation to New Zealand. We wish you all the best in New Zealand and big hugs to Mongrel and Dipshit.
