Oaky and Samantha

Samantha and her handsome lad, Oaky, travelled from Brisbane to Auckland with Petraveller. Samantha speaks about her pet and shares her pet relocation experience with Petraveller.

Oaky was adopted by Samantha’s husband when he was in high school. Samantha says, “My husband got him as company as his dad worked night shifts a lot. Oaky was a pound puppy, and due to my husband being in the Navy, he has followed the family everywhere."

She adds, “We lived in Wagga Wagga, Tamworth, Kiama, Gold Coast. He is a well-travelled pooch who usually naps on road trips in the car. He has never been in a crate before, but because he is well-trained, he should be fine in a crate.”

Samantha describes Oaky as a happy, calm, loving-natured dog. She says affectionately, “Oaky is well-trained, friendly and a part of our family. Sometimes he thinks he is human. He doesn’t like other dogs that jump on him because he is old and grumpy and likes his own space for naps.” Samantha laughs and adds, “Don’t say “walk” around him unless you intend to take him because he will not leave you alone until you do. We have not met a person that doesn’t fall in love with our boy.”

Samantha and her husband were relocating to Auckland, New Zealand as her husband got a posting there for fifteen months. Like all pet parents who consider pets as family members, Samantha couldn’t think of leaving Oaky behind when the idea of relocation came up.

Samantha decided to get help from a certified international pet relocation company to relocate her pet. As Oaky is an old dog, getting him safely to New Zealand was the number one priority for her.
