Ozzy and Axl

Brisbane to Christchurch

Trip Overview

Owner: Axl Keating

Origin: Brisbane

Pet Name: Ozzy

Destination: Christchurch

Breed: Pointer

“Ozzy is our 30kg hot water bottle when the bed is cold.”

Here’s a story of a brave dog, Ozzy, who battled cancer successfully. Read to know more about Ozzy and his international pet relocation story from Brisbane to Christchurch.

Ozzy became a part of Axl’s life two years ago, when his colleague could no longer give him the life he deserved. Axl recalls, “Their property was not suitable for a dog, meaning he was chained up outside 24/7. Ozzy came to our house for a play date to meet us and see if he would fit into our lives. He had so much fun that he wouldn’t get back in my colleague’s car. So he stayed and never left.”

Axl and his fiancé moved to Australia from New Zealand three and a half years ago. He fondly says, “We found ourselves a little alone. Ozzy saved us as much as we saved him. He has now become our everything.”

Axl takes a trip down memory lane and reminisces, “When Ozzy came to us as an eight-year-old dog, he was a little lifeless. We could tell he was sad and just wanted to live the life a dog should live. It wasn’t long till Ozzy became full of life, energetic, happy and comfortable.”

Ozzy’s health was a matter of concern for the family. Axl shares, “A year after Ozzy came home, he was diagnosed with severe skin cancer. When we took him to the vet to have his skin and tumour looked at, he was so excited to be there, wagging his tail on the vet’s table. He never lost hope and the strength of his love for life.”

He adds, “He battled through and is now cancer-free. Now, at ten years old, you would question all the things he has been through as he has the energy of a two-year-old and is happy to meet every person or other doggos in his path. He is the life of the party, our best friend and our 30kg hot water bottle when the bed is cold.”

Axl’s family was returning home to Christchurch, New Zealand, to be closer to their family and friends. He says, “Leaving Ozzy behind was not an option for us. He lived a sad life before we took him on, and with how happy he is now, we could not bear to re-home him again. It wouldn’t be fair to him, and we would never forgive ourselves if he wasn’t given the life he deserves.”

Axl decided to contact a pet transport company to help relocate his pet to New Zealand. He reached out to Petraveller after looking at the customer reviews online. He says, “We chose Petraveller after looking at all the raving reviews online of other people who trusted their fur babies with the company. Not to mention that the one price pays for everything it takes to get him relocated with us. Petraveller made it unbelievably easy for us during this otherwise stressful time.”

Ozzy was a well-mannered boy during his journey and made it safely to Christchurch. Thank you, Axl, for trusting Petraveller with your handsome dog Ozzy. We wish you happiness and hope Ozzy enjoys the beautiful outdoors of Christchurch.
