Percy, Darcy and Abbey

Melbourne to Wellington

Trip Overview

Owner: Abbey Lummis

Origin: Melbourne

Pet Name: Percy and Darcy

Destination: Wellington

Breed: Domestic Shorthair x2

“Percy and Darcy are treated like our children. We love them a lot.”

International travel has become significantly difficult due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and pet travel is now even more challenging than ever. Nonetheless, Petraveller relocated two kitties, Percy and Darcy, from Melbourne to Wellington. Pet mum Abbey talks about her pets and explains why she chose Petraveller for the international pet relocation.

Three years ago, Abbey became a pet parent to Percy and Darcy when she adopted them from a local rescue and gave them a forever home. Brothers from the same litter, Percy and Darcy are mostly indoor cats with access to the balcony. Abbey lovingly says, “They are treated like our children and we love them a lot.”

Talking about Percy, Abbey says, “Percy is like the older, more confident brother. He loves food and will often finish off Darcy’s food when he is done with his. Percy generally likes his own space, but will always purr loudly when he gets pats and when he’s in a cuddly mood.”

Darcy, on the other hand, is slightly on the timid side. Abbey shares, “He took a while to warm up to us when we first got him. He is now a lap cat and will follow us around the house, quite clingy in the best way and can be quite vocal. He is very affectionate with Percy, and we often find him grooming his brother. Darcy sleeps at the end of our bed every night.”

The Lummis family was moving back home to Wellington, New Zealand because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and leaving their babies Percy and Darcy behind was never an option for them.

Abbey chose to hand over the responsibility of transporting her pets to an experienced international pet relocation agency. She reached out to a few pet travel companies based on recommendations. Abbey says, “I reached out to one company because they came highly recommended. But, when we started the quote process, they were very unhelpful and told us they weren’t able to arrange flights to New Zealand because of the travel restrictions. I started my search again and Petraveller was the first to come up, and they had very good reviews. It was important for us to choose a service that handled the whole move for us because we had a lot on our plate.”

She adds, “Petraveller has been very helpful and they understand the stress and worry this process can bring up. They have tried their best to mitigate it for us.”

Percy and Darcy had a fantastic flight from Melbourne to Wellington. Thank you, Abbey, for letting Petraveller relocate your adorable kitties. We wish you good luck for the future and lots of kisses to dear Percy and Darcy.
