Pip, Oscar and Wayne

Townsville to Christchurch

Trip Overview

Owner: Wayne Sangster

Origin: Townsville

Pet Name: Pip and Oscar

Destination: Christchurch

Breed: Maltese cross x2

“My fur babies are like my children.”

Wayne reached out to Petraveller for relocating his beloved pets, Pip and Oscar, from Townsville to Christchurch. Read more to know their international pet relocation experience.

Pip has been a part of Wayne’s life since she was two years old. Wayne recalls, “She was with an old man in Brisbane who went into a home and he could no longer look after her. She only has one eye and is a little lap dog.”

Wayne says, “When we got Oscar at eight weeks old, Pip looked after him like he was one of her puppies. Pip was the boss until Oscar became a lot larger than her.”

Both Pip and Oscar love destroying soft toys. They love their walks and going out in the car. Pip is gentle and has a very kind nature.

Oscar, on the other hand, is a big softy who loves cuddles and likes to be the centre of attention. He is very protective of Pip around other dogs and people he does not know. Wayne laughs and says, “He will do anything for treats, he loves his food and everyone else’s if he gets half a chance. Oscar is more like your rebellious teenager.”

Oscar has unfortunately been recently diagnosed with a health complication. Wayne explains, “Oscar recently started medication for EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) to help him digest his food better and in nutrient absorption.”

Wayne decided to return home to Christchurch, New Zealand, because he lost his job in Australia due to COVID-19. He says, “After six weeks out of work and not able to find further employment, I had to sell my possessions to pay rent and bills and head back to New Zealand. I considered re-homing the dogs but could not go through with it. My fur babies are like my children. They have been with me for several years (Pip 7 years, Oscar 5 years).”

Wayne started his search for international pet relocation companies to help relocate Pip and Oscar to New Zealand. He says, “I contacted four to five companies for quotes. Petraveller was one of only three companies prepared to supply quotes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The quote was not the cheapest but it included all costs such as customs duty and charges for New Zealand arrival as well, which the other companies did not include. I was also impressed by the feedback and recommendations left by other customers.”

We are delighted to say that we safely relocated Pip and Oscar to Christchurch amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you, Wayne, for trusting us with your pets. All the best on the move. Stay safe!
