Piper and Brian

Melbourne to Los Angeles

Trip Overview

Owner: Brian Lunde

Origin: Melbourne

Pet Name: Piper

Destination: Los Angeles

Breed: Chesapeake Bay Retriever

“Piper loves to steal things and prance around with them, looking for attention.”

Petraveller relocated a gorgeous Chesapeake Bay Retriever Piper from Melbourne to Los Angeles. Pet dad Brian talks about the companionship and comfort with Piper and what led him to Petraveller for the international pet relocation.

Brian got Piper as a puppy from California and brought her home to Kansas. Brian says, “Piper is our second Chesapeake Bay Retriever. When we decided to move to Australia, our visa approval took much longer than expected. We took the opportunity to spend three months slowly touring the Western US. Piper was with us the whole way, and while we covered a lot of ground even on our drive days, she was out of the car, hiking with us multiple times.”

Piper is very sweet and charming. Brian says, “Piper will wake us if she wants to go for a walk or breakfast, then curl up in our spot the moment we get up and reluctantly be coaxed out. We have never had an issue with her chewing, even as a puppy. But she loves to steal things and prance around with them, looking for attention. Socks are her favourite.”

Piper loves the sun and will seek out a sunny spot and stay there until she can’t take it any longer. She is very food motivated, and a treat in hand is the best way to get her attention.

However, Piper is a tad fearful. “We have worked with a behaviourist on methods to improve her confidence, and I feel we have made a great deal of progress. Her fearfulness exhibits itself through some reactivity to other animals and some actions with people,” says Brian.

Brian explains, “She will greet someone with no issues and yet lunge and growl when that person walks away from her. This is only on a leash and disappears if she is distracted or lured with food in another direction.” Piper has never had any issues with vet visits or physical therapy visits.

Brian was moving back home to Los Angeles, USA along with his beloved pet Piper. He says, “We moved to Australia in 2018 for work and because we were looking for a change and were drawn to the adventure. We really enjoyed our time and took the opportunity to see much of Australia and other places this side of the world.”

Brian and his family were moving back to the Unites States of America because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He says, “As for so many others, COVID made us look at things differently. Being away from our families was not an issue before because we could always catch a flight back to see them until now.”

Brian started his search for pet travel options to move his four-legged family member to the United States. Brian used an American pet transport agency in 2018 to coordinate Piper’s travel but wanted an Australian organisation with a deeper understanding of the system this time round. He says, “There were some fellow Americans on a Facebook group who had incredible things to say about Petraveller.”

Piper made it to Los Angeles in good health and great spirits. Thank you, Brian, for choosing Petraveller and giving us an opportunity to relocate your dear pet. We wish you good luck and many happy fun adventures with Piper in the United States.
