Rocky and Maria

Melbourne to Auckland

Trip Overview

Owner: Maria Aranas

Origin: Melbourne

Pet Name: Rocky

Destination: Auckland

Breed: Chow Chow

“Rocky has changed our lives for the better, and we can’t imagine life without her.”

Making best of the opportunity of working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Maria and her cute Chow Chow Rocky relocated from Melbourne to Auckland with Petraveller. Read more to know about Rocky and her pet relocation story.

Maria and her partner Milos always wanted a Chow Chow as their first dog, and in March 2019 they picked up Rocky from the airport who came from a breeder in Tasmania. Maria recollects fondly, “As soon as we saw this little black fluff ball emerge from the back of the crate, we were in love. She adapted to her new surroundings very easily and was running and playing with us straight away.” She smiles and adds, “Rocky has changed our lives for the better, and we can’t imagine life without her. We love taking her to new places, and we’re so excited to show her our home in New Zealand.”

Rocky is very unlike the stereotypical Chow Chow. She’s a sweetheart who enjoys meeting new dogs and loves people even more. Maria says adoringly, “She will wag her tail as soon as someone greets her. She’s a happy dog who loves her zoomies once a day! The thing she loves the most is food, especially cheese, chicken and peanut butter. Since she is treat-driven, she was fairly easy to train.”

Maria adds, “Since Rocky loves to be with people, she’s very independent and doesn’t get separation anxiety. She doesn’t usually bark, only if she hears an unusual noise or if she’s frightened.”

Maria and her partner were moving back home to Auckland, New Zealand. “We are originally from Auckland and moved to Melbourne in 2018. Due to COVID-19, our work has allowed us to work remotely. We thought we’d take this opportunity to go home and work from New Zealand so that we can spend more time with our families. We’ll be looking at coming back to Melbourne mid-January, depending on the situation in Victoria,” says Maria.

Organising an international pet move is stressful even in ordinary times, and it can be more challenging during a global pandemic. Maria decided to hand over the relocation of her pet to an experienced pet travel agency. Maria says, “We consulted three companies, one never got back and the cost of the other two companies were similar to Petraveller. We chose Petraveller because of the clear travel proposal and the detailed process. I liked the status updates during the journey and that they offered a direct flight from Melbourne to Auckland.”

Rocky had a lovely flight to Auckland and is now busy making new doggy and people friends in New Zealand. Thank you, Maria, for trusting Petraveller with adorable Rocky. Here’s to many more fun adventures with Rocky back home in Auckland.
