Rousseau and Marisa

Sydney to Paris

Trip Overview

Owner: Marisa Yeaman

Origin: Sydney

Pet Name: Rousseau

Destination: Paris

Breed: Domestic Longhair

“Petraveller put our minds at rest right from the first phone call.”

Marisa and her pet cat Rousseau relocated from Sydney to Paris with Petraveller. Here’s their International pet relocation story.

Rousseau was a runaway cat; he ran away from the home of his first adoption. Marisa recalls, “This little cat turned up at our home and decided he wanted to live with us. He was watching us through our window and sleeping on our veranda even in the middle of winter.” He was terrified of people, and so Marisa decided to name him after the French philosopher, Rousseau, who did not like people and lived on an island towards the end of his life.

It took Marisa a year to coax Rousseau to come inside her home. She says, “Once he settled inside the house, he had a lot to learn, like being cuddled, sleeping on the couch and the bed without falling off and being fed three times a day. But most of all, he had to learn to trust again.” With constant love and reassurance he got with the Yeaman family, Rousseau finally is beginning to blossom and cope better with confronting experiences.

Marisa tracked Rousseau first adoptive parents from his microchip. They were happy to sign the adoption papers over to Marissa after seeing the attachment between Marissa and Rousseau.

Even today, Rousseau is a bit of a scaredy-cat. He doesn’t like loud noises and is terrified of thunder. Marisa says, “When scared Rousseau tries to run or sometimes crouches in one spot and shivers physically.” Marisa prepared Rousseau for his new pet travel experience and the aeroplane ride with car rides and several trips to the vet. She says, “He now knows that his cage is a safe place, so we are hoping that he will relax once he is in the air.”

Marisa and her family were relocating with their pet to France. She says, “We lived in the Netherlands for two years before and have always intended to return. We are heading back to Europe, France this time and are looking to settle in the countryside of Burgundy.” Worried about Rousseau, she says, “We could't think of re-housing Rousseau. He has chosen us as his parents, so parting was not an option.”

Marisa chose Petraveller for the international pet relocation from Sydney to Paris. She says, “Petraveller has helped to put our minds at rest right from the first phone call. We trusted a loved and valued member of our family to Petraveller as we wanted our beloved Rousseau to fly with someone who understood his special needs.” She adds, “They answered all our questions and calmed our fears.”

Rousseau’s pet travel experience from Australia to Europe was smooth sailing. Thank you, Marisa, for choosing Petraveller as your pet travel partner. We hope Rousseau loves his new life as a country village cat.
