Ruby and Gemma

Melbourne to Los Angeles

Trip Overview

Owner: Gemma Cosgrove

Origin: Melbourne

Pet Name: Ruby

Destination: Los Angeles

Breed: Rottweiler

“I couldn’t have asked for more with Petraveller!”

Here’s a beautiful story of a cheeky Rottweiler named Ruby who relocated from Melbourne to Los Angeles with Petraveller. Read on to know about Ruby and her international pet relocation story.

Irish couple Gemma and her husband moved from Ireland to Australia to travel for a year and ended up staying for five years. Gemma says, “We both grew up having dogs, and I took the notion that if we were staying in Australia I wanted a dog for our family.” Gemma recalls with a smile, “We went to see the litter of pups that Ruby came from and they say a dog picks it's owner and that was the case with us. The owners opened the gate and let all the puppies out, and Ruby went straight to James, and we knew she was the one for us.”

Ruby is a very cheeky dog. She loves her food, especially fresh salmon. Gemma laughs as she shares an incident, “My husband and I were doing a BBQ out in the back one evening. When we had it lit and ready, I went back into the house to bring the salmon out, only to discover Ruby having a feast whilst hiding under the kitchen table.”

She adds, “She’s a real mummy’s girl and waits at the window for me to come home. She loves running and playing on the beach. A ball is her favourite toy, which she will have us throwing for hours! Ruby will bark when strangers approach our house, but when we let them in and she knows they are okay, she will then go and lie beside them demanding affection.”

The Cosgrove family were moving to Los Angeles, USA. “I had the opportunity to transfer from Australia to the US with my current employer. I have always wanted to explore the United States, so it was a great opportunity for us to take. However, things have taken much longer than we expected. My husband’s visa took seven months to get approved. In addition, with the impact of the corona virus, it will be almost a year before me, my husband and Ruby are reunited,” says Gemma.

Like all devoted pet parents, the safety and comfort of her pet was Gemma’s biggest priority. Since she was very nervous about Ruby travelling on such a long flight, she decided to seek help from an international pet relocation company to handle her pet’s journey. After a lot of research and reading reviews, she chose Petraveller. Gemma says, “I corresponded with Petraveller for months via email and phone and felt comfortable and confident in their service.”

We are glad to say that Ruby made her long flight with great ease and is now well-settled in her new home. Gemma says, “Ruby has settled into life in California very well. We have been exploring the parks and beaches together, and the mountains are next on our list.”

Gemma couldn’t be happier with Ruby’s pet travel experience. She says, “I want to thank Petraveller for reuniting me with my fur baby despite the global challenges of Covid-19. The team was fantastic in providing regular updates and a video before she boarded the plane – I couldn’t have asked for more!”

Thank you, Gemma, for trusting us to help you relocate your precious girl Ruby. Here’s wishing you and Ruby many more wonderful adventures in the outdoors of Los Angeles
