Tui and Nicole

Melbourne to Nelson

Trip Overview

Owner: Nicole Jamieson

Origin: Melbourne

Pet Name: Tui

Destination: Nelson

Breed: Domestic Shorthair

“If you adopt an animal, you adopt for life!”

Nicole and her Domestic Shorthair cat Tui relocated from Melbourne to Richmond, Nelson, New Zealand with Petraveller. Nicole tells us why she chose Petraveller for the pet travel and why Tui is such an important part of her family.

When Nicole and her partner got engaged, one of the first things they decided to do was to give a rescue cat a new home. Nicole recalls, “Cats at the shelter get homes easily if they are kittens, but older cats always struggle to find homes. Tui had been at the shelter for 11 months, and so we decided to take her home with us. She was 7.5 years old at that time.”

Tui soon settled in with the Jamieson family. She thinks she is their baby and is spoilt silly by the Jamiesons. Nicole says, “We now have a baby and another on the way. Tui is very gentle and loving with the baby.”

When the Jamieson family decided to move to Nelson, New Zealand, they knew they had to take Tui along. Nicole reminisces, “We never for once thought of leaving Tui behind. We know that if you adopt an animal, you adopt for life and she is part of our family. We could never not have her in our lives.” Tui is Nicole’s one-year-old daughter’s companion and gives her a kiss every morning before she leaves for daycare.

When Nicole looked for a international pet relocation service to help with the move, she was certain that she wanted a company that would make her comfortable and look after her feline friend with care. Nicole says, “Petraveller understood how important Tui was to our family. They considered our feelings and helped make the decision with us rather than pressurising us to choose them. Petraveller was easy to reach and went above and beyond even before we agreed to go with them, which made me comfortable that they would look after our cat.”

Tui is now 12 years old and is a happy, well-settled cat in her new home in New Zealand.

Thank you, Nicole, for trusting us to fly your precious pet Tui.
