Whitby and Glenda

Melbourne to Auckland

Trip Overview

Owner: Glenda Mawson

Origin: Melbourne

Pet Name: Whitby

Destination: Auckland

Breed: Domestic Long Hair

“We had a good recommendation from people who had used Petraveller.”

Glenda and her beloved Domestic Long Hair cat Whitby travelled from Melbourne to Auckland with Petraveller. Glenda talks affectionately about her pet and tells us why she chose Petraveller for Whitby’s international pet travel

Handsome Domestic Long Hair Whitby got a forever home when Glenda adopted him from Purrs of Point Cook in 2015. Glenda says, “We wanted a grey, short-haired female cat like his mum, who was a Russian Blue. But he was wrongly sexed and his mum must have mated with a Maine Coon (or similar) as we ended up with this large fluffy cat who we had already fallen in love with.”

Whitby has a detached personality and does not like to cuddle or be considered as a lap-cat. Glenda says, “Whitby does not trust strangers and it took him a long time to settle into Cat Napping (boarding cattery). He would hide under his blanket as soon as we entered the door, but has finally become used to the facility and even allows the ladies to pick him up.”

She adds, “Whitby is always happy to see us when we collect him and doesn’t leave our backyard for the next few days. He has a small area that he will venture to, including the next-door neighbour and the neighbour behind us.”

Since 2006, Glenda lived and worked in Australia, and it now was time for her to head back home to Auckland, New Zealand. She says, “We are now grandparents and we are moving to spend quality time with our families. We were initially shocked at the cost of relocating Whitby to New Zealand but he is part of our family and we know he will have a fabulous life on our 4-acre block.”

Relocating a pet overseas can be quite stressful especially when you’re in the middle of your own relocation. To ease the burden of the pet relocation process, Glenda decided to hand over the responsibility of the international pet transport to experts who relocate pets day after day.

Glenda contacted a few companies and received quotes for Whitby’s pet travel. She says, “We chose Petraveller because we had a good recommendation from people who had used Petraveller and we felt that was more important to us.”

Like most pet parents, Glenda was anxious and nervous about her pet’s travel. She says, “We were very nervous that this move will put him under stress and it will be a very long 36 odd hours until he is picked up at the airport.”

We are glad to say that Whitby had a fantastic journey and made it to Auckland safely and in great spirits. Thank you, Glenda, for booking Petraveller for your gorgeous kitty’s pet transport. We hope you have a wonderful time with your family and Whitby in Auckland.
